Since 1772

Home is where the heart is — and our home is open to your hearts. Kathy Buczek, a wife and mother of 4, has made special effort to ensure that The Temperance House retains its historic charm, grace, elegance, and that hospitality is always paramount.

Whether you choose the refinement of our dining room featuring luxurious seating alongside our dual fireplaces, or the relaxed atmosphere of our Tap & Barrel Tavern with lively entertainment, our goal is to make your dining experience a memorable one with food that nourishes the soul.

We are a scratch kitchen, with sauces and glazes made to order for the freshest experience possible. Fresh steaks, burgers and seafood are brought in several times per week to ensure the best flavors possible.

1772

The Inn is Born

Andrew McMinn first opened the Inn in Newtown, Pennsylvania, establishing one of the area's earliest gathering places.

Rev. War

A Revolutionary Lodging

Union General Francis Murray made the Inn his lodging during the Revolutionary War. The site became a gathering place for those fighting for the colonists' cause.

1840s

The Sign of the Good Samaritan

Chillion W. Higgs, a member of the Newtown Temperance Society, became the new proprietor. He dubbed it "The Sign of the Good Samaritan" and served only mineral water, ginger beer and lemonade — a far cry from today's full-service bar.

Today

A Living Landmark

The Temperance House welcomes you with service and quality that is never compromised. Historic charm, modern hospitality.
